The Different Parts of a Telescope
April 17, 2008
We have watched over the wonderful heavenly bodies and marveled at the sights of the solar system that are visible in the night skies using a telescope. We have often wondered what it would be there in the vast open area i.e. in the space. Well there were a lot of questions but then there were no answers until one ingenious piece of technology was invented and you have guessed it right. Well it was the telescope that man invented to answer his questions and fulfill his desire to conquer the vast unexploited skies. The telescope as you well has the capacity to help us view objects from a long distance away from the earth, some telescopes are very powerful as compared to ones that are not so powerful and advanced depending upon the money you spend on buying yourself one. So have you ever wondered how do these telescopes actually work? What are the different things or parts that are used to build a telescope?
As you know that binoculars also help us to see far off objects near to us and so does the telescope. The parts that are used in the making of a telescope are almost similar to the ones that are used to make binoculars. The foremost thing required to build a telescope is the optical tube assembly {OTA}. The OTA as a matter of fact is the heart of the main tube assembly which is made up of several different optical parts, mirrors and lenses. The eyepiece is the section or the part that helps a person to look through and depending upon the type of telescope some move extra individual lenses that are located inside the telescope. The part after the eye piece in the making of a telescope is the focuser. As you know the meaning of a focuser you will certainly know that this focuser helps to the viewer to change his or her focus so as to help create a clearer and sharper view of the object that has been targeted for viewing purpose.
The most important part in a telescope is the finder because it enables the user to track down the object in space. And as you must have realized the importance of the finder you will know that it is highly impossible to find objects at such a long distance without the help of the finder.
And as you know that the more money you spend on the telescope the better you get the facilities to view the celestial objects and here you get to use the Barlow lenses which are extra lenses that are found in the most expensive telescopes. It has a negative effect on increasing the focus length, therefore changing the magnification of a telescope.
As you very well know that the mount is used to hold the telescope in the proper place there are three different types of mounts namely: - the altitude azimuth, the equatorial and the dobsonian mount. There other types of mounts but they are used generally for a more large and advanced telescopes and these are not available in the retail stores.
And the last part of the telescope is called the tripod and they come in different sizes and varieties and these tripods as the name denotes tri means three the tripod is made up of three legs and they are used to hold the telescope up to a height where people can stand and use it. Most of the telescopes are sold with the tripod but then if you happen to buy a telescope without the tripod then there is nothing to worry as these are available in all the shops that deal with telescopes and they are sold pretty cheaply.
Now that you have the basic knowledge about the basic parts of the telescope you will know if you have paid more you would have got an advanced telescope in return for the money spent.
Summary:
Having learnt about the basic parts that go into making a telescope you will now be in a better position to buy a telescope according to your needs and your budget because the more money you spend the more better and advanced quality of telescope you get for yourself so go and get a telescope which will fulfill your needs without leaving a big hole in your pocket.
Got something to say?
