The Oldest Form Of Optical Telescope – The Refracting Telescope

April 25, 2008

The refracting telescope uses various lenses to gather light in order to produce an image in other words this types of telescope is also known as an dipodic type of telescope. Earlier this type of technology was used in spy glasses and the earlier version of the telescopes including the one that Galileo himself used in making his very own first telescope. Though today this technology i.e. the refracting technology is used in the making of the binoculars and long telephoto lens cameras.

This technology was used in Netherlands way back in the early sixteenth century and as you very well know that Galileo the great astronomer had also heard about this type of telescope being used in this country had used his knowledge to develop a telescope to build his own telescope using this refraction technology. Though people believed that it was Galileo the great astronomer who had actually invented the first telescope using this technology until it came to the knowledge that it was not Galileo who had invented this type of a telescope but it was first invented in Netherlands.

As you must be knowing that there are two types of lenses i.e. is to say the concave lens and the convex lens. The refracting telescope uses the convex lens to refract the light which is then delivered to the eyepiece and there is yet another lens that allows the viewer to see the objects which is enlarged or amplified by the telescope. Using a refracting telescope helps the viewer to see objects that are larger, brighter and clearer than that if the viewer would be seeing with his or her naked eyes. This refracting telescope is a great asset for viewing the cosmos or for that matter looking at objects that are placed far away as such.

Many well known space observatories use this type of refracting telescopes in their observation space stations. This telescope is used to observe the skies and mark out the different stars, to view and discover the comets and other space objects and to also get a better understanding of our solar system. Today whatever we know about the space is because the astronomers used this refracting telescope and discovered many a secrets of the heaven. And if you have decided to view the skies then using the refractive telescope is the right choice which you can buy from your local hobby store or from a store that sells different telescopes. The refracting telescopes are used by both i.e. they are used in the observatories as well as by people who have a hobby to look into space and discover something new in the sky and even if you are not a scientist you could still look up into the skies and see it in its glory right from the comfort of your house.

If you wanted to collect more information on this refracting telescope you could browse through the internet or for that matter you could look up on to one of the observatories where you could get all the information required and you could view the different telescopes that are displayed. The refracting technology has changed the view of many a people and has helped many people see things which they would have otherwise not seen in space as well as on the earth. At the end all that is to be said is that this telescope i.e. the refracting telescope is here to stay as long as there are things to be seen not only on the planet earth but in whole of our solar system.

Summary:

Refracting telescopes use the convex type of lenses to project the images that are seen in our solar system and this technology was first used in the early sixteen hundreds in Netherlands and later it was because of Galileo the great astronomer that this technology became so popular that it is here to stay as long as there is something to view for all those scientists, astro-hobbyist etc.
